About the Digital Collective

Long story short

We are digital design specialists worked for numerous councils in UK on digital transformation projects.   We were privileged to be involved in many varied projects from creating systems on a low-code platform to fixing immediate problems, designing and developing end-to-end digital services, running design sprints, co-designing solutions with young people and helping councils develop ambitious strategies based on research and engagement with real people.

We started as a small team following the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Manual.  We developed our practice over time, learning Human Centred Design, Service Design and Design Thinking techniques and practices.  We used these to create and iterate our own practice and we would like to share this, along with our tools and templates, with you.

From our playbook

The term playbook refers to American football. In the game, each team have a series of ‘plays’ – learnt formations and strategies that help people work together without discussing what to do. We want to share our plays so that we can learn our part and unconsciously move towards a tighter, faster and more powerful delivery.

In order to work effectively, we created a playbook for our team. It’s a collection of tools, methods and structures – albeit very loose ones – that helped us succeed. It included the reason of our being here, what we believe in and how we work. Use these pages to structure your own ideas and challenges.

This website and playbook is our legacy!  Our team was disbanded in 2020 (it was a political decision) and we wanted to share our work, our tools and our learnings with the you.
